M E M O R A N D U M September 20, 2011 To: Members of the Board of Trustees From: Nancy L. Zimpher, Chancellor Subject: Naming of Theresa Patnode Santmann School of Health Sciences – Farmingdale State College Action Requested The proposed resolution approves the naming of the School of Health Sciences at Farmingdale State College. Resolution I recommend that the Board of Trustees adopt the following resolution: Resolved that the naming of the School of Health Sciences at the Farmingdale State College, as the Theresa Patnode Santmann School of Health Sciences, be, and hereby is, approved. Background The resolution approves the naming of the School of Health Sciences at Farmingdale State College as the Theresa Patnode Santmann School of Health Sciences. Ms. Santmann’s past financial support and other service to Farmingdale State College are exemplary, rivaling the financial support from any other single contributor. Her contributions and service to the Nursing Department in particular, through scholarships and the purchase of equipment, have enhanced the College’s capability to develop a high quality nursing program. Through her membership on and financial support of the Farmingdale College Foundation, Ms. Santmann has been instrumental in the recent success the Foundation has enjoyed in doubling its assets during her time on the board. She is routinely one of the major contributors to the Foundation’s fundraising events. This Spring, Ms. Santmann gave $1 million to the College for support of the Nursing, Dental Hygiene, Medical Lab Technology and Bioscience Departments. This gift far exceeds any single contribution received in the College’s history. The college council has voted unanimously that the School of Health Sciences be named in her honor.
