Zimpher, Chancellor SUBJECT: Naming of the Horace Mann Quad – State University of New York College at Buffalo Action Requested The proposed resolution approves the action of the College at Buffalo State College Council on October 16, 2012 in naming the “old quad” at the College at Buffalo the “Horace Mann Quad.” Resolution I recommend that the Board of Trustees adopt the following resolution: Resolved that the action of the Buffalo State College Council in naming the “old quad” at the College at Buffalo the “Horace Mann Quad” be, and hereby is, approved. Background The proposed resolution approves the action of the Buffalo State College Council on October 16, 2012 in naming the “old quad” at the College at Buffalo the “Horace Mann Quad.” The Council’s action was taken in recognition of Dr. Horace (Hank) Mann’s giving to Buffalo State, which is in excess of $6,000,000. Dr. Mann is Buffalo State’s most generous lifetime donor. Dr. Mann is a SUNY Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus. He joined the Buffalo State faculty in 1953 as director of the Exceptional Children Education Division. He retired in 1992. Buffalo State recently launched Transforming Lives: A Campaign for Buffalo State with a $20 million goal.
