The Communications and External Affairs Committee of the Board of Trustees of the State University of New York held a meeting on September 19, 2011.

The Communications and External Affairs Committee meeting was called to order by Trustee Carl Spielvogel at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, November 21, 2011 at the SUNY Global Center. 

• Mr. Spielvogel made a motion to accept the minutes from the September Committee Meeting. The motion was carried. 

• Ms. Hengsterman read a resolution honoring Morgan Hook for his service to the State University. The motion carried.

• Ms. Hengsterman gave an update to the committee on the future staffing of the Office of Communications.

• Mr. Belsky provided an update to the committee on SUNY’s growth in social media and invited Board members to contribute to SUNY’s new blog.

• Mr. Spielvogel asked Mr. Belsky and Ms. Gambrill to comment on the use of the web in student recruitment efforts.

• Ms. Hengsterman gave an update to the committee on government relations.

• Mr. Frame gave an update to the committee on federal relations.

• Ms. Gambrill gave an update to the committee on advancement activities and a progress update on strategic planning implementation.

• Ms. Gambrill read a resolution regarding the Naming of the Louis and Beatrice Laufer Center for Physical and Quantitative Biology at Stony Brook University. The motion carried.

• Ms. Gambrill read a resolution regarding the Naming of the Wartsila Laboratory at Maritime College. The motion was withdrawn.

• Mr. Leventhal gave an update to the committee providing an overview of the function of the Office of Global Affairs.

• Meeting adjourned and went into Executive Session
