She called upon her co-chair, Robert Ecklin from the Research Foundation’s Board of Director’s Research-Supported Economic Development Committee who then introduced RF’s new President, Dr. Timothy Killeen. Dr. Killeen thanked everyone for welcoming him and asked that each attendee introduce themselves and state their affiliation. It was noted that Trustee Ehrenberg was participating via video conference, and that Dr. Myron Mitchell and Mr. Chris Wade were participating via conference call. The chairs of both committees briefly summarized their respective committee charters. Mr. Ecklin reported on his recent visits to several RF RSED advisory member agencies, noting with appreciation the invaluable input and contributions of each to the committee. An extensive discussion followed, during which participants offered ideas on ways to advance SUNY research and innovation. Dr. Killeen proposed that the ideas be organized under the three central objectives of the SUNY Entrepreneurial Century Team. They include: growing SUNY research; creating a culture of entrepreneurship; and support of New York businesses and regional economies. The committees called for the creation of a multi-year plan, focused on activity and measurable outcomes, which will include budget information, metrics and goals. It was noted that measures should incorporate both societal and economic benefits, as well as the solving of business problems. It is anticipated that a draft plan document will be presented at the next meeting of the SUNY Research and Economic Development Committee scheduled for September 2012, and the RF Research-Supported Economic Development Committee, scheduled for October 2012. There being no further business, upon motion duly made by Trustee Rea, seconded by RF Board Director Kress, the meeting was adjourned at 11:30 a.m. 18 SUNY Research and Economic Development Committee/RF Research-Supported Economic Development Committee Minutes -2- July 10, 2012
