Subject:	Awarding of Honorary Degrees


Action Requested

	The proposed resolution approves candidates to be awarded Honorary Degrees by certain campuses on certain dates set forth on an attached listing.

Resolution
	I recommend that the Board of Trustees adopt the following resolution:

Resolved that the candidates for Honorary Degrees set forth in a listing which has been filed with the Secretary of the University under date of May 10, 2011 be, and hereby are, approved for conferral of such degrees on the dates and at the places specified in the listing, in accordance with the Guidelines for the Awarding of Honorary Degrees, as last amended by Resolution 90-49, dated March 29, 1990.

Background

	At its November 2010, January and March 2011 meetings, the Board considered a list of candidates for Honorary Degrees to be conferred in 2011 or 2012.  Having now received acceptances from some of the candidates, it is appropriate for the Board to give formal approval for conferral of the degrees.  As we receive final notification of acceptance from any remaining candidates, we will bring their names before the Board for the formal action necessary to award the degrees.
