Subject:	Executive Reorganization


Action Requested

	The proposed resolution reflects the Chancellor’s desired new senior executive organization, and appoints officers at the level of Vice Chancellor or above into such positions.

Resolution

	I recommend that the Board of Trustees adopt the following resolution:

	Resolved that David Lavallee be, and hereby is, appointed Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs & Provost, effective immediately.

	Resolved that Johanna Duncan-Poitier be, and hereby is, appointed Senior Vice Chancellor for Community Colleges and the Education Pipeline, effective immediately.

	Resolved that William F. Howard be, and hereby is, appointed Senior Vice Chancellor & General Counsel, effective immediately.

	Resolved that Elizabeth Bringsjord be, and hereby is, appointed Vice Chancellor for Academic Programs & Planning and Vice Provost, effective immediately.

	Resolved that Brian Hutzley be, and hereby is, appointed as Interim Vice Chancellor for Financial Services & Chief Financial Officer, effective immediately.

	


Resolved that the Board supports the other aspects of the Chancellor’s plan for reorganization of the University’s senior executive team going forward, including the creation of Vice Chancellor positions for Finance and Research, and that the Board confirms the Chancellor’s authority to fill all such positions on an acting or interim basis, subject to the authority of the Board to appoint ongoing positions at the level of Vice Chancellor or above.

Background

	Because of the recent departures of John O’Connor as Senior Vice Chancellor for Research & Innovation, and Secretary of the University, and James Ketterer as Vice Chancellor for Policy & Planning and Deputy Provost, and the planned departure of Monica Rimai, as of July 15th as Senior Vice Chancellor & Chief Operating Officer, it is necessary to reassign senior executive duties and to adjust titles to reflect the new duties.   The Chancellor has discussed her proposed plan of organization for individuals and teams with the Board in executive session, and such organization plans will be finalized and posted to the State University’s website after approval of this resolution.  

	All of the above individuals, except Brian Hutzley, have previously been appointed by the Board to positions of Vice Chancellor or above, and the above title changes are in recognition of their new duties and roles.  Brian Hutzley was recently appointed Interim Vice Chancellor for Financial Services & Chief Financial Officer by the Chancellor, and a copy of his CV is attached for the information of the Board.  William Howard was also recently appointed by the Chancellor, with the consent of the Chairman of the Board, as Acting Secretary of the University, and that role will continue at this time, subject to further action of the Board.
