M E M O R A N D U M June 15, 2011 To: Members of the Board of Trustees From: Nancy L. Zimpher, Chancellor Subject: Acquisition of Property - State University of New York, Empire State College Action Requested The proposed resolution authorizes the acquisition of property in Saratoga Springs for Empire State College. Resolution I recommend that the Board of Trustees adopt the following resolution: Whereas it is necessary for the purposes of the State University of New York Empire State College to acquire real property hereinafter described; now, therefore, be it Resolved that the approximately 1.3 acre parcel of real property located at 46 Union Avenue and 35 White Street, Saratoga Springs, County of Saratoga, New York, owned by 46 Union Avenue LLC be purchased for the sum not to exceed $2,600,000, as established by a proper appraisal and an accurate survey and approval of title to said real property by the Attorney General; and, be it further Resolved that the Chancellor, or designee, be, and hereby is, authorized to execute any and all documents, notices, maps, or any other instruments necessary or appropriate to effect the acquisition of title to and possession of such property. Background Empire State College requires this land to construct an expansion of the Coordinating Center to provide space for administrative, academic, and student support services for the entire College. The Facilities Master Plan, developed to demonstrate the physical space needs of the College through 2023, identifies this land as a future home of the SUNY Open University, Graduate and Nursing Programs or the Northeast Regional Center. The intent of this project, as with the current strategic plan, is to replace leased regional center facilities with a prototypical 35,000 square foot facility, which will be designed to establish architectural consistency and enhance the College’s “branding”.
