M E M O R A N D U M May 10, 2012 To: Members of the Board of Trustees From: Nancy L. Zimpher, Chancellor Subject: Appointment of Dr. Carli Schiffner as Interim President of College of Technology at Canton, State University of New York Action Requested This proposed resolution appoints Dr. Carli Schiffner as Interim President of the State University of New York College of Technology at Canton. Resolution I recommend that the Board of Trustees adopt the following resolution: Resolved that Dr. Carli Schiffner be, and hereby is, appointed Interim President at the State University of New York College of Technology at Canton, effective September 1, 2012, and that her service as Interim President may continue until such time as the Board of Trustees, by resolution, appoints a successor; and be it further Resolved that Dr. Schiffner will be compensated at an annual salary of $170,000, effective September 1, 2012, and that as Interim President she may be granted use of a State vehicle. Background I recommend that Dr. Carli Schiffner be appointed Interim President of the State University of New York College of Technology at Canton. At this time we expect that Dr. Schiffner will not be a candidate for the permanent presidency, and she will be able to revert to her current position and title of Provost after this additional interim service. The Chancellor also anticipates that between now and September 1, 2012 Dr. Schiffner will serve as Officer-in-Charge at any times that the current President is not readily available to perform the duties of that office, and in the Chancellor’s discretion Dr. Schiffner may be granted an extra service pay stipend for such service between now and that date. Dr. Schiffner joined the Canton community in 2003 as a faculty member in the History Department. She then served as President Kennedy’s Chief of Staff. After serving as the Dean of Arts and Science at Yakima Valley Community College from July 2007 through June 2011, Dr. Schiffner returned to Canton as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Schiffner serves on numerous boards, commissions and committees; and she has been sought as a speaker for the past twelve years. She has also been published in at least seven different magazines or journals. She received her BA degree in history from Gonzaga University in 1996; her Masters degree in Cultural and Intellectual History from Drew University in 1998; and her Ph.D. in American, Asian and Women’s History from Washington State University in 2004. A copy of Dr. Schiffner’s resume is attached. Board Resolution -2- May 10, 2012
