SUBJECT:	Appointment of Dr. Dennis L. Hefner as President Emeritus and University Professor 

I recommend that the Board of Trustees adopt the following resolution:

Resolved that the appointment of Dr. Dennis L. Hefner as President emeritus and University Professor, State University of New York at Fredonia, and effective December 5, 2012, be, and hereby is, approved.

Background

	In recognition of his achievements as President, administrator and educator at the State University of New York at Fredonia, I recommend that Dr. Dennis L. Hefner be appointed as President emeritus and University Professor at SUNY Fredonia.  

	Dr. Hefner has served as President for nearly 16 years at SUNY Fredonia.  Prior to this appointment, he served as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Minnesota State Colleges and Universities since1994.  Prior to that, he was Vice President for Academic Affairs and Professor or Economics at California State University, San Bernardino, from 1990-94 and was Transition Team Leader at CSU, Monterey Bay, in 1994.  Dr. Hefner also held a number of administrative and faculty positions at CSU, Chico, from 1976-90 and faculty positions at the University of Maryland fro 1970-72 and Washington State University from 1967-69.  In addition, he was Director of Research PAID Prescriptions, Inc. in California and an Economist and Social Research Analyst for the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare.

	Dr. Hefner received a B.A., Economics, in 1967 from California State, Chico and an M.A., Economics, in 1969, and Ph.D., Economic, in 1971, from Washington State University.




	Dr. Hefner has served as a consultant, directed a number of grants and contracts, published extensively, and been a member of numerous civic and charitable associations, educational committees and councils, and scholarly and professional associations.
