Subject:	Stony Brook University Hospital - Quality Assessment 			Review Board

I recommend that the Board of Trustees adopt the following resolution:

Whereas by Resolution 2007-28, adopted March 20, 2007, the State University Board of Trustees established a Quality Assessment Review Board for Stony Brook University Hospital; and

Whereas Resolution 2007-28 defined the role, function and qualifications for membership on the QARB and provided that members of the QARB be appointed by the State University Board of Trustees upon the recommendation of the Chancellor, in consultation with the President of Stony Brook University; and

Whereas by Resolution 2007-99, adopted May 31, 2007, the State University Board appointed the initial members of the Quality Assessment Review Board for a term of three years, whose terms are about to expire; now, therefore, be it

Resolved that the following individuals be, and hereby are,  reappointed to the Quality Assessment Review Board for a second term of three years and that Mr.�John Gallagher be designated as its Chair:

Beresford Adams			John Gallagher
Arthur Aufses				William Greene
Matthew Cody				Martin Karpeh
Harry Davitian				Steven Strongwater
Richard Fine

and, be it further
Resolved that the following individuals be, and hereby are, appointed to the Quality Assessment Review Board to fill vacancies:

Michael Davison 
Richard Villanti
Monica Santoro


Background

	By Resolution 2007-28, adopted March 20, 2007, the State University Board established the Quality Assessment Review Board for Stony Brook University Hospital, and established the role, function, membership, and qualifications for membership thereof.  The Quality Assessment Review Board consists of 9-12 external members and no more than three ex officio members recommended by the Chancellor, in consultation with the President of Stony Brook University, and appointed by the State University Board.  Five external members must be distinguished residents of Suffolk County, two external members must be residents of New York State who are physicians in good standing, and at least one member must be a registered nurse employed by Stony Brook University Hospital.

	Of the nominees, Reverend Dr. Beresford Adams and Messrs. Cody, Davitian, Gallagher, Villante and Ms. Santoro are residents of Suffolk County; Drs. Aufses and Karpeh are physicians in good standing who reside in New York; and Michael Davison is a registered nurse employed by Stony Brook University Hospital.  The ex officio nominees are Dr.�Fine (Dean of the School of Medicine at Stony Brook University), Dr.�Greene (Associate Director for Medical and Regulatory Affairs) and Dr.�Strongwater (Chief Executive Officer of the Stony Brook University Medical Center).  Mr. Davision fills the position vacated by Ms. Shultz, and Mr. Villante fills the position vacated by Dr. Laufer.
