Zimpher, Chancellor Subject: Approval of the Appointment of Dr. Kathryn Boor as Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University I recommend that the Board of trustees adopt the following resolution: Resolved that the appointment by the Cornell University Board of Trustees of Dr. Kathryn Boor as Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University for a five-year term, be, and hereby is, approved at a State salary of $200,000 effective July 1, 2010. Background Dr. Boor has been serving as professor, since 2006, and chair, since 2007, of the Department of Food Science at Cornell University, and will be succeeding Susan Henry who will step down as dean on June 30, 2010. The Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees at Cornell acted on the appointment on May 20, 2010. Dr. Boor joined Cornell in 1994 and promptly established the Food Safety Laboratory. She is the director of Cornell�s Milk Quality Improvement Program and serves as the secretary and scientific adviser of the New York State Cheese Manufacturer�s Association. She also is a past president of the New York State Association for Food Protection and a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Food Protection and Applied and Environmental Microbiology. Her research focuses on identifying and characterizing mechanisms that allow pathogenic and spoilage organisms to persist in foods and cause disease in humans. Dr. Boor received her B.S. in food science from Cornell (1980), her M.S. in food science from the University of Wisconsin (1983) and her Ph.D. in microbiology (1994) from the University of California-Davis.
