Melody Mercedes is the President of the Student Assembly of the State University of New York, requiring her to also serve as the Student Trustee on the SUNY Board of Trustees. She was elected to the position April 18, 2009.
Trustee Mercedes is proud to represent the nearly 440,000 students in the State University and to be the Student representative on the Board of Trustees.
Trustee Mercedes is the community service chairperson of Omega Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.- Mu Chapter. She is involved in fundraisers for the local community, including the Buffalo Public Schools, Try Program, a safe haven for women and Journey’s End refugee services.
Trustee Mercedes was born in Manhattan and raised in Yonkers, Westchester County. Trustee Mercedes’ family resides in the Dominican Republic, where she attended and graduated from SEK Las Americas International High School. Trustee Mercedes, whose native language is Spanish, is currently a student at the University at Buffalo, where she is pursuing a double major in communications and international studies.
